Detailed Itinerary
Day 1: Departure from Nairobi to Amboseli Elephant Country
Pick up from Nairobi in your private 4x4 Overland Cruiser and drive south across the Athi Plains into Amboseli National Park. Arrive in time for lunch and an afternoon game drive, tracking huge bull elephants and big cat prides across swampy basins against the backdrop of snow-capped Mount Kilimanjaro.
Day 2: Full-Day Amboseli Swamp & Observation Hill Safari
Spend a full day exploring Amboseli’s untamed wilderness. Head to Observation Hill for a panoramic view of the entire ecosystem, watch herds of elephants bathing in the Enkongo Narok Swamps, spot hippos, waterbirds, and lions, and enjoy a picnic lunch surrounded by open savannah.
Day 3: Overland Traverse to Tsavo West Volcanic Wilderness
Depart Amboseli for a scenic overland safari across the green volcanic slopes of the Chyulu Hills into Tsavo West National Park. Walk along the dramatic black obsidian rocks of the Shetani Lava Flow, then visit Mzima Springs to view hippos and Nile crocodiles from the sunken glass underwater observatory before proceeding to your lodge.
Day 4: Tsavo West Morning Game Drive & Transfer to Watamu Beach
Enjoy a early morning sunrise game drive through Tsavo West's acacia woodlands, keeping an eye out for leopards, rhinos, and klipspringers. Exit the park after breakfast and drive down to the coast, arriving at your beachfront resort in Watamu in time to watch the sunset over the Indian Ocean.
Day 5: Watamu Marine Park & Coastal Relaxation
Spend a full day soaking up the tropical atmosphere of Watamu. Embark on a glass-bottom boat tour into Watamu Marine National Park to snorkel among protected coral gardens, sea turtles, and colorful reef fish, or choose to explore the ancient 13th-century Gede Ruins or Mida Creek mangrove boardwalk.
Day 6: Watamu Morning & Return SGR Train Express to Nairobi
Enjoy a final seaside breakfast on the beach. Transfer to the Mombasa Miritini SGR Terminus to board the Madaraka Express train for a scenic return journey through Tsavo National Park back to Nairobi, arriving in the late afternoon for your connection or airport transfer.
